
Better known as Meldrum Bay, it is a picturesque waterfront community located on the western tip of Manitoulin Island. This is truly the west end of Manitoulin Island and you DO want to travel those extra kilometers to visit. Home to a busy marina and campground, breakwall, a museum, and general store. The landscapes are beautiful with plenty of photo opportunities.
An unorganized Township, located at the western terminus of Hwy 540, 72 km west of Gore Bay. Settled in the 1870's, named after a Town in Scotland, Meldrum Bay developed as a commercial fishing and lumbering centre.
From 1920's to 1962 the Owen Sound Transportation Company steamers provided weekly ferry service between Meldrum Bay and Thessalon. The opening of the Trans Canada Highway in 1962 brought this service to an end due to the major loss in profits.
Now, during the summer months, the Meldrum Bay Marina is busy with pleasure craft boats touring the Great Lakes/North Channel. Meldrum Bay is also known for its world class Salmon Fishing.
Lafarge Manitoulin is the second largest employer on Manitoulin Island and is located in Meldrum Bay. It is the largest Canadian marine quarry with loading docks located in the Mississagi Strait.
The community of Meldrum Bay is small but one of the friendliest and prettiest places you will visit on Manitoulin Island.
